…In so few words: Anarchy for your membrane.
Die Antwoord anyone? What? You mean you haven’t had the pleasure of an auditory seizure? Well, what the hell are you waiting for? Die Antwoord is a South African group which is as odd as David Koresh claiming he was Jesus (if David Koresh were really Jesus, then why in the fuck did “Jesus” have to wear glasses? Jesus with a stigmatism? I think not.) The difference between a false god and this group is that Die Antwoord, though odd, is definitely cooler than that weasel faced loser. Die Antwoord formed in 2008 and their name means “The Answer” in Afrikaans. The group is cut from the same cloth as that other import, M.I.A. Die Antwoord’s music is a mash up of alternative, hip hop, and zef, which is a style of music mainly associated with South African culture. In so few words: Anarchy for your membrane.
Ninja and Yo-Landi’s visual style sort of remind me of Marilyn Manson’s bastard children circa 1996.
The group’s members include: Watkin Tudor Jones aka Ninja, Anri Du Toit aka Yo-Landi Vi$$er, Justin De Nobrega aka DJ Hi-Tek, and DJ Vuilgeboost (Live DJ). Ninja and Yo-Landi’s visual style sort of remind me of Marilyn Manson’s bastard children circa 1996. Their respective looks are obviously influenced by their Cape Town surroundings mixed in with elements of a 4 AM rave.
that will always top any mass produced trash heap that’s plied on the people through their airwaves.
The groups music is a literal mind fuck. You truly are taken on a ride to somewhere other than this realm of the universe. Die Antwoord makes no apologies and they don’t try to conform to what’s popular now. They don’t pander to trends, they are trendsetters and they don’t care if you or I care. To some that might sound arrogant and brash, but the fact of the matter is that when it comes to musical expression, it’s the freedom you allow yourself that will produce something different and unique and that will always top any mass produced trash heap that’s plied on the people through their airwaves.
Upon first listen, you’ll be tempted to turn the music off, smash your stereo/computer/whatevs listening device you have. Don’t. Just give in to the weirdness. Die Antwoord is proof positive that you can do whatever you want, however you want to do it, answer to nothing and no one and you know what? It’s refreshing. How many of us have ever wanted to let the weirdness out but we were too afraid to let ourselves be weird, especially in front of others? Well Die Antwoord came along to show you that weird is the new cool and that weirdness translates itself into their music so what the hell are you afraid of? Allow yourselves to let go and follow along as Die Antwoord shows you the way.
