2013 saw the birth of another power rock duo worthy of inclusion into that pantheon of two-man bands who kick so much ass…

It seems nowadays that bands have been forming and stopping at just two members. I mean, really, who needs the added headache of a bassplayer and rhythm guitarist? Just turn up the bass output on your amp and do it that way. End of the story. The two-man formula has been working so well for quite some time (Local H, the now defunct White Stripes, The Black Keys, The Monday Project). In 2013, Brighton, England saw the birth of yet another power rock duo worthy of inclusion into that pantheon of two-man bands who kick so much ass, you’re left wondering why anyone would ever add any more members to the mix?

Royal Blood (Mike Kerr • bass/vocals, Ben Thatcher • drums) got a big push from the UK’s Arctic Monkeys who took the boys on as a supporting act in the spring of 2014 for two of their Finsbury Park shows. From there, Royal Blood were well on their way. On August 25th, 2014, Royal Blood released their self-titled debut album to critical acclaim.

I would change my mind 13 different times and I still wouldn’t be satisfied with the final decision.

This album is all killer, no filler. Coming in at under thirty-three minutes, this is one of those albums that you pop in and press play and then walk away; you’re job is pretty much done after that. Just step back and allow yourself to be enveloped by that comforting electrical blanket of rock. What? You wanted me to point out some stand out tracks from the album? How? I’d be here all day wracking my brain and I guarantee you that I would change my mind 13 different times and I still wouldn’t be satisfied with the final decision. No, this is one album that you just buy on blind faith, but lead you astray I have not. Royal Blood’s Royal Blood is the cat’s pajamas. Do you think it’s too soon to start flooding the band’s social media outlets with repeated requests for a follow-up? Tell you what, have yourselves a little listen. Let me know what you think.
